Laune Mountaineering Club is a volunteer-run hillwalking club in Killorglin, Co. Kerry. If you have any questions about this page or your details, email the club secretary at [email protected].
Your membership details
When you join or renew, the membership form asks for:
- your name, address, date of birth, mobile number and email address
- whether you’re new or renewing, your membership type, and your Mountaineering Ireland number if you have one
- the names and phone numbers of two emergency contacts
- the date of your bank transfer
- whether you’re happy to appear in club photos
Why we need them: to manage your membership, to register you with Mountaineering Ireland (which includes your insurance), and to contact you, or your emergency contacts, if needed on a club outing.
Who can see them: only the membership secretary and the committee members who need them. Your details are shared with Mountaineering Ireland to register you. We don’t share them with anyone else, and we never sell them.
Where they’re kept: the form is a Google Form, and the answers are stored in a Google Sheet in the club’s own Google account, which only the committee can open.
How long we keep them: for the membership year (1 November to 31 October). A new form is needed every year, and the previous year’s answers are deleted once the new year’s registrations are done.
Please don’t put health details on the form. If you have a medical condition the leader should know about, tell the leader on the day and carry the details in your rucksack, as the guidelines ask.
Photos
The club takes photos on hikes and shares some on this website and on our Facebook page. The membership form asks whether you’re happy to appear in them. If you’d rather not, choose “No” on the form and remind the leader on the day. If you’d like a photo of you taken down, email us and we’ll remove it.
This website
- No tracking. The website doesn’t use cookies, adverts or tracking of its own. (If our hosting provider ever needs to check that a visitor isn’t a bot, it may set a short-lived security cookie for that purpose only.)
- The Facebook feed on the home page and Photos page only loads if you choose Show Facebook posts. Facebook may then set its own cookies, under Facebook’s privacy policy. If you tick “Always show on this device”, that choice is saved on your own device only, and you can turn it off again with the link under the feed.
- The membership form is hosted by Google, under Google’s privacy policy.
- Hosting: the website is hosted by Cloudflare, which handles basic technical information (such as your IP address) to deliver the pages and protect the site from attacks.
- Calendar files: “Add to calendar” and calendar subscriptions only send hike details to your device. The club doesn’t see who uses them.
Your rights
You can ask to see the details the club holds about you, have them corrected, or have them deleted, by emailing [email protected]. Deleting your details means we can’t keep you registered as a member.
If you’re unhappy with how the club has handled your details, you can complain to the Data Protection Commission.
